Copper plating is used as a coating because of its good electrical and thermal conductivity. In addition, copper plating provides a beautiful decorative surface and has good antibacterial properties.
Copper plating is an excellent undercoat for silver plating and tin plating. The copper coating applied to the piece is smooth and opaque.
The natural darkening of copper can be slowed down by a separate passivation treatment, which does not impair the properties achieved with copper plating.
The pieces are treated in an electrolytic process. Copper plating can be applied to brass and aluminium. Aluminium can be an alloy or pure aluminium. The treatment is done by rack or barrel plating methods in automated lines. The thickness of the coating can be measured with an X-ray machine.
